Wi-Fi Distribution in East Village, Crediton

Modern electrical installations don’t just need power… they often need reliable Wi-Fi too.

We recently visited a rural property in East Village, near Crediton, where the customer was experiencing poor Wi-Fi coverage due to the property’s thick stone walls.

The home relies on an EE cellular broadband connection, which worked well in some areas but struggled to provide a reliable signal where it was needed most. With connected technology becoming an increasing part of modern homes, the customer wanted to future-proof the installation.

One clue stood out straight away. Their existing Pod Point EV charger had always struggled with connectivity, and with future smart meters expected to make greater use of customers’ own Wi-Fi networks, it made sense to solve the wider coverage issue rather than just one individual problem.

After assessing the property, we designed and installed a weatherproof external networking system using SWA Cat5e cable, Power over Ethernet (PoE) equipment and two outdoor Wi-Fi access points housed within robust weatherproof enclosures.

By taking the network outside the building and distributing the signal externally, we were able to provide reliable coverage where the property’s construction had previously made that difficult.

Modern electrical installations are becoming increasingly connected. EV chargers, energy management systems and smart metering technology all depend on reliable communication as much as they do reliable electrical supplies.

Sometimes the right solution isn’t adding another electrical circuit — it’s making sure the technology has the reliable network connection it needs to do its job.
