Outdoor lighting installations often work quietly in the background for years without any attention. But when a light fails — particularly in environments where reliable lighting is essential — it quickly becomes noticeable.
We were recently contacted by a customer at a livery yard in Woodbury, Devon, where we had previously installed floodlighting for their horse arena several years ago. One of the lights had stopped working, so we arranged a visit to investigate the issue and carry out the necessary repairs.
Investigating the Fault
After attending the site in Woodbury, we confirmed that one of the floodlight fittings had failed and required replacement. As the lighting had originally been supplied and installed by us, the fitting was still within the manufacturer’s warranty period.
The faulty unit was replaced under warranty during the visit, restoring the lighting in the arena.
However, while carrying out the work we also took the opportunity to inspect the remaining fittings. During this inspection we noticed that several of the other lights were beginning to show early signs of failure.
The LED modules in a few of the fittings were partially failing and starting to flicker, which often indicates that the internal components are nearing the end of their service life.
Resolving the Issue Before Further Failures Occurred
Rather than waiting for each individual fitting to fail over time, we contacted the manufacturer and arranged for replacement units under the product warranty.
Once the replacements had been supplied, we returned to the Woodbury livery yard to install the new fittings and ensure the arena lighting system was operating correctly again.
Handling the process this way meant the customer avoided:
• Multiple future call-outs
• Progressive lighting failures
• Disruption to the arena’s usability
Instead, the issue was addressed in a single planned visit.
Supporting Installations Long After the Job Is Finished
Situations like this highlight an often overlooked part of electrical work — what happens after the installation.
When products supplied as part of an installation develop faults within their warranty period, we help customers manage the process. This includes:
• Identifying the issue
• Contacting the manufacturer
• Organising replacement equipment
• Returning to site to install the new fittings
By managing the warranty process, customers avoid the inconvenience of dealing with suppliers or manufacturers themselves.
Reliable Lighting for Working Environments
For environments like equestrian facilities, reliable lighting is particularly important. Arena lighting is used regularly for training and evening work, so consistent performance is essential.
This recent visit to the livery yard in Woodbury, Devon ensured the lighting system continues to perform as intended — providing consistent, safe illumination for the arena moving forward.
Good installations shouldn’t just work on day one. With proper support and attention when issues arise, they should continue to perform reliably for many years afterwards.
